  • New rules allow buying and selling property easier for those in the program after five years. Plus, they must spend some months each year in Sabah.

So, the Sabah MM2H program got a makeover. Now, it’s easier to figure out what you need to join and what cool things you get from it.

Eligibility and Application Process

The Cabinet has made some big changes to the Sabah Malaysia My Second Home program, also known as SBH-MM2H. They want more people from other places to think of Sabah as their new home. Here’s what you need to know if you’re thinking about making Sabah your second home.

First off, the government set some rules about who can join this program. You’ve got to fit into these categories if you want in:

  1. Age Matters: There’s now an age limit for applicants. This means they’re looking for people who meet certain age requirements.
  2. Money in the Bank: You need to show that you have enough money saved up. A fixed deposit account in a local bank is one way to prove this.
  3. Buying Property: One exciting part is that after five years, you can sell the property you first bought and then buy another one worth at least RM600,000. This keeps the money flowing in Sabah’s economy.
  4. Staying Put: Even though this place might be your second home, there are rules on how long you need to stay in Sabah each year.
  5. Checking Boxes: Make sure all your paperwork is in order. This includes following two important laws – the Tourism Act and the Companies Commission of Malaysia Act.
  6. Local Ties: They also want businesses that join this program to have a mix of local and foreign ownership.

Everything kicks off with putting together all your documents and sending them over to the folks running the SBH-MM2H programme. Once they have everything, they’ll take a look and let you know if Sabah will become your new home away from home.

So, why not think about it? If meeting new people, exploring diverse cultures, and living amidst breathtaking landscapes sounds like your kind of adventure, Sabah just might be calling your name!

Incentives and Benefits

Sabah is opening its doors wider with the new Sabah MM2H program, making it easier for people to call this beautiful state their second home. Now, anyone as young as 30 can apply, which is a big step down from the previous age of 50.

This means more people can enjoy living in Sabah sooner. Plus, there’s exciting news for those who love exploring new cultures and places. The state plans to make travel even better by hiring tour guides who speak Korean.

This move aims to welcome more visitors from Korea and make their experiences smoother and more enjoyable.

Another great thing? Tour companies now need to include a local guide in every travel package they sell under this scheme. This ensures that tourists get authentic insights into Sabah’s rich culture and environment while also supporting local jobs.

It’s clear that these incentives are not just about bringing more people into Sabah but also about boosting the local economy and showing off what makes Sabah special – its natural beauty, unique culture, and warm community.

So whether you’re thinking of making Sabah your new home or just visiting, there’s never been a better time.

The Impact of Sabah MM2H on Sabah’s Economy

Reviving the Sabah MM2H program is a big deal for our economy. It means more people from other places might pick Sabah as their second home. When these folks come, they bring money.

They buy homes and spend on local stuff. This helps everyone in Sabah make more money.

Investing in Sabah through MM2H is like planting a seed that grows into a strong tree, providing shade and support to the local community.

Local businesses will see more customers, especially in Kota Kinabalu where lots of visitors hang out. Plus, when people buy property or decide to live here for 5+5 years or longer, it’s good news for houses and shops selling Malaysian crafts and foods.

This whole thing makes sure we have jobs and keeps Sabah buzzing with activity.

Differences between the Sabah MM2H and Federal MM2H Programs

So, we’re diving deep into the differences between the Sabah MM2H and the Federal MM2H programs. I’ve laid it all out in a neat table for you, keeping things clear and to the point. Sabah’s new twist on the MM2H program is quite the talk of the town, and for good reasons. With its unique rules and perks, it’s lighting up paths for many to call Sabah home, at least for a while. Here’s how it stands apart from the federal version:

FeatureSabah MM2HFederal MM2H
Application ProcessManaged locally by the Sabah state governmentHandled by the federal government
Incentives and BenefitsSpecific to the needs and attractions of SabahGeneral incentives applicable nationwide
Workforce Hiring PoliciesSupports hiring Korean-speaking tour guides with a 3:1 local to foreign worker ratioNo specific policy mentioned for hiring foreign workers in tourism
FocusBoosting Sabah’s tourism and appealing to younger applicantsFocused on attracting retired expatriates

Sabah’s MM2H program shines with its revised age limit, catering to a younger crowd eager for adventure and new experiences. Plus, their strategic move to support tourism by hiring Korean-speaking tour guides not only opens up job opportunities but also enhances the experience for Korean tourists. Managed on a local level, Sabah’s program offers tailored benefits, proving that they’re not just following the federal script but rewriting it to showcase Sabah’s charm.

Conclusion

Sabah is stepping up its game. With the new Sabah MM2H program, things look bright. This plan draws more people to call Sabah their second home and boosts local houses and jobs. It’s smart thinking – mixing tourism with living opportunities for folks outside Malaysia.

The changes? They make it easier for younger people to join in too. And that’s great news for Sabah’s future, making sure it stays lively and welcoming for everyone!

Message for Ava Ling: Are you one of the recognized agents in Sabah for the Sabah MM2H program? What is the name of your company? How do I contact you concerning a possible MM2H application? I originally started to process an application for the MM2H while living in Kota Kinabalu in 2010-2011 and, despite the changes to the program since then, I am interested in applying once again. I previously held a diplomatic visa while working at an embassy in Kuala Lumpur prior to retiring in 2010.
